My Personal Travel Tips for Visiting Florida

Hi everyone! I hope that everything is well in your world. Today’s blog was inspired by the recent visit of my family. Some of these tips are really common sense things but we don’t always think about these certain aspects of travel while planning our vacations. Here are just a few tips I have for in Florida:

  • This first one is going to sound really obvious but STAY HYDRATED! You may be visiting here during the summer and it’s still hot where you live or you may be visiting during a time that’s cold where you live but still hot here. Either way I can’t express to you how much you need to be drinking water. It is very humid here and you will be sweating a lot. Not to mention just the stress of traveling itself, if you are at the beach, eating different foods, etc etc. Frequent restroom breaks may seem annoying, especially while driving, but the alternative of dehydration is far worse. If you know that you are going to be doing something like a big beach day or Disney World you need to start hydrating the day before.
  • Find accommodation near the activities you want to enjoy. What I mean by that is, if you want to be at the beach mostly you need to find somewhere right on the beach. If you are wanting to go to Disney World I would recommend staying in the Disney hotels or at the very least right on I-Drive. Everyone else in the world is here for the exact same activities as you. From equestrian events to surfing you really won’t find anything here that other people aren’t trying to do as well and driving will take a lot of time out of your precious vacation days. I’m not saying driving or traffic here is any worse than anywhere else, but it can and will eat up a lot of precious time.
  • Dress Appropriately! I have to admit, black is my favorite color to wear but you won’t be comfortable outside in Florida in black. I know you will see people walking around wearing a black tee shirt but I wouldn’t recommend it. Light colors in cooling fabrics like cotton and linen and I also like some of the UPV shirts. I also would add onto this recommendation of bringing an extra set with you if you are going to be doing an activity where you could get wet or extra sweaty. I know we all want to look cute, but beating the heat is more important.
  • Don’t try to do too much. I know you are on vacation and you want to make the most of it, but chances are you aren’t used to doing so much stuff out in the heat in your every day life. Or maybe you aren’t even used to walking around at all. Then when you add on lots of eating out and a disrupted sleep routine, you are going to get tired and then your vacation is definitely going to suffer. Try not to plan on doing more than 1 or two big activities depending on how long you are staying. I also want to add to this that if you are planning on staying at the beach all day (which I don’t recommend) you need to be in the shade. If your hotel isn’t providing tents, it’s worth the money to rent one. Just trust me. And also remember my first tip about the water. Even most locals don’t usually stay all day at the beach because it is physically draining so just keep that in mind.

Those are just a few tips that I have to hopefully make your vacation as amazing as possible. Have a tip you would like to add? Let me know in the comments!
