June is already proving to be a really busy month for myself and my husband (who is a Realtor with Realty Executives) but we definitly aren’t complaining! Right now there is a huge influx of tourists with schools being out and stuff so we won’t be doing as many main stream activities the next couple of months. July and August can be uncomfortably hot for a lot of the outdoor activities we like to do anyway and fighting crowds of people trying to make the most of their vacation (understandably so) just makes it worse so we will be doing some more off the beaten path type of activities for a couple of months.
That doesn’t mean that I won’t still be producing content though! One thing I am working on right now is a Florida events calendar. It really has been quite an undertaking but there really isn’t anything that I have found where one can easily look up things to do on any given day. For the time being I am just going to be publishing them via posts on here and my Facebook and Instagram pages until I figure out the best way to get the information out there in the easiest way for people to find. Email events you know about (they can be anywhere in Florida) to doti@itsmorethanbeaches.com and make sure to include the what, where, and when along with any additional information. Thank you for helping me with this!
Here are some events this week and weekend with links for more information:
- Take a Tram Tour at Colt Creek State Park in Lakeland
- Florida Black Bear Curriculum Workshop for Educators at Dade Battlefield in Bushnell
- Vegan Festival in Orlando
- Tampa Bay Toy Expo at the Hilton Garden Inn Tampa North
- Space Coast Comic Con at the Holiday Inn in Melbourne
- Flagler Beach Farmer’s Market at Flagler Beach South

As you can see from above, there are a LOT of fruits and veggies in season in June. I love seeing what is new and fresh every month. A great resource to find out which fruits and veggies are in season is through the Florida Department of Agriculture. It is a great all around source for various information, so you are a resident I highly recommend keeping the page in your bookmarks. I keep this handy on my phone because I love stopping at the road side stands and going to every Farmer’s Market that I can to get my fix of fruits and vegetables all year round and this helps me know what I can expect to find. Sometimes I have to buy in the grocery store, but thankfully Florida’s farmers also sell to the stores so we are never short of fresh produce in the Sunshine State.
What is your favorite things in season right now? My favorite things in season this month are watermelons and tomatoes. Although other than avocado I love everything in season right now. I wish I could like avocado. I’ve tried. I’ll continue to try out everyone’s guac and whatnot but I just don’t understand how anyone can stand to eat it. That actually makes me a good person to have around though because I’ll always give you my extra avocado or side of guacamole at dinner. 🤣 So don’t hate me, just go out to dinner with me and take advantage.
That is it for today! I hope everyone is having a fabulous week and don’t forget to email me about any Florida activities that you know about! Follow me on Facebook and Instagram for every day content as well as sign up for my mailing list/newsletter
