We visited this place again last weekend and it gave me a much needed reminder that I had meant to publish a blog about it weeks ago! If you have read any of my past blogs, you might know that before my fiance moved to Missouri he lived in Florida and he had heard of The Freezer but had never been there and then once we moved here in 2020 we started hearing about this place called “The Freezer” which served the best shrimp around and we eventually found an afternoon free sans our poodle Leia to try it out several months ago.

The Freezer Tiki Bar has a Homosassa address and is just almost off the beaten path. Some of the locals will even say that is is located in Crystal River. But don’t let the fact that it isn’t off a highway or inside of a city deter you from going! It is definitely worth the few minutes out of the way drive.

It has some really gorgeous views of the marina that you can see both in the outside seating area, and in most of their inside seating. It is also CASH ONLY with no ordering ahead (even if you are getting to-go) but they do have an ATM inside if you don’t have any cash on you.

They have an interesting ordering system which, to be honest, we were not the biggest fans of and you should be able to catch onto it pretty quickly but it is not a ‘sit down and expect a waitress to come and take your order’ situation. We didn’t know this our first time and the waitress helped us out with the process and everyone is very willing to help you out with it, just be prepared for things to be a little different.

It is definitly a bar type atmosphere complete with jukebox, but there were several families with kids there. It is also dog-friendly outside. Unfortunately while our poodle is very polite most of the time, she has no table manners so she won’t be visiting any time soon.

I will tell you that the shrimp absolutely do NOT disappoint. When we visited again over the weeked for some take out we also got their stone crab claws and I have to say, that was the first time in my life that I have eaten crab and enjoyed it.

They don’t have a lot on their menu other than shrimp, crab, chowder and a few other seafood items that I think probably changes as things come into season, etc. I only mention this because I assumed I could have shrimp, fried shrimp, hushpuppies, potato salad, french fries, etc etc. The shrimp are peel and eat period. They are out of this world though and I know you won’t be disappointed.
