A couple of months ago I wrote a blog about the PolanDeli in Wildwood, Florida and how much we loved eating there and bringing home take out and unfortunately a couple of weeks ago they closed their doors for good.

I am really not sure what the issue was, but I can assure you that it had nothing to do with the quality of the food. We either ate there or got take out at least once a week and it was absolutely delicious every time.

I wanted to write about it because we drove past their building the other day and it made us a little sad to see it and it really made us think about how we need to be better about supporting local restaurants (and other businesses) whenever we can.

I know we all have our favorite chain or two and usually those are also owned by local people but I know the last several times we have went out to eat we have made a point to visit local and non chain restaurants and have got to try and enjoy several dishes that we might not have otherwise ever known about. And I bet that if any of you reading this would try something local next time instead of a chain you also would be pleasantly surprised. The bonus is also making connections with people in your community and that’s never a bad idea! It doesn’t matter if you live in Florida, Missouri, New York, or California, I am sure that you can find something great near you.
