I was going to write about some new experiences that we had at Daytona Beach, but I realized I hadn’t done a restaurant review in a while so thought I would start off with doing one of those first.
A few weeks ago we were out and about and were really wanting to try something new so we decided to try Thai Ruby at Sumter Landing in The Villages and then we took a little walk around the lake.
I ordered the frog legs that came with an appetizer of a spring roll and the most delicious clear soup I have ever had. James (my fiance) got some sort of chicken dish and you will have to forgive me that I can’t remember which one he got. I am still not over how my meal was presented. I loved the goose plate and how they shaped the rice into a heart. Presentation isn’t as big of a deal to me as it is to James, but I appreciate it none the less.
Even though we decided we would like to eat here again, I did not love my meal. I don’t know if you can see the white strips that appear to be onions in my dish but those are not onions. Those are strips of fennel. Fennel was not listed in the ingredients of what I ordered or I would not have ordered it, or at least have asked if I could have mine made without fennel. I may be in the minority on this, but I am not a fan of my food tasting like black licorice. This is nothing against them, although I do think that fennel is such a potent ingredient it should be disclosed. If those had been onions, that dish would have been unstoppable.
As I stated earlier, the clear soup was some of the best I have ever had. The sauce that came with the spring roll was also very good. James really loved his dish as well, and I regret that I didn’t write down what he ordered. Obviously it is some form of chicken served with noodles though. 😂
After we ate, we took a little walk around the landing. There is no shortage of things to do and see in this area if you are ever there. Unfortunately I didn’t see any alligators in the lake even though we did see lots of signs. And they even have boat tours of the lake if you are into that. They also were having live entertainment that day at one of the bars right by the lake, and you just can’t beat a free show!
As always, I am open to hearing about any new places in Florida to eat or visit. What would you like for me to write about next? Daytona Beach? Alligator sightings? More food? Let me know in the comments!
